Bell, Cameron split Pro finals at High Voltage MX for Rock Maple Racing
Shelton sweeps Semi-Pro classes in delayed season opener
GREIG, New York (Jan. 31, 2021) — Veteran snowmobile racers Heath Bell and Matt Cameron split the Pro finals over the weekend, as Rock Maple Racing (RMR) opened its 2021 cross country racing season on Saturday at High Voltage MX in Greig, New York.
Bell, of New Gloucester, Maine, powered his way to victory in the Pro Stock final, with Luke Vaadi (Mannsville, NY) and Dylan Thompson (Lincoln, ME) filling out the podium in second and third. Arctic Cat riders Kenny Murphy (Oswego, NY) and Cameron rounded out the top five.
Cameron, of Palmerton, PA, started his day by outrunning Bell to claim the Pro Open final. Vaadi capped a solid outing with a third-place finish, with Thompson and Murphy completing the top five. Scott Preston, of Rochester, finished sixth and also won the Pro Am Plus 40 final.
In Semi-Pro action, Aaron Shelton (Walton, NY) swept the top spots with a brilliant effort. In the Stock class, he held off former snocross regular Austin Kodey (Endicott, NY) and Logan Neill (Hornell, NY) for top honors. In the Improved class, Brock Young (West Glover, VT) claimed second while New Hampshire’s Eric Gleich (Boscawen) filled out the podium in third.
Longtime snowmobile racer and stock car racing crew member Travis Brisbin (Jeffersonville, VT) powered his way to victory in the Woody’s SOO class. Brisbin held off fellow Vermonter Jake Barrows (Middlebury) and Brian Wellman (Hornell, NY) to collect the winner’s hardware.
Action in the Sport classes was highly competitive in Greig, as well. Polaris rider Cody McCormick (Ogdensburg, NY) earned a win in Sport Factory Stock, with Alex Zwicki (Fairfax, VT) and Mj Honrales (Redfield, NY) finishing second and third, respectively.
Arctic Cat rider Allyn Wager (Dellmar, NY) outgunned Zwicki and Kyle Such (Enfield, CT) for top honors in Sport Open. Ian Smith rounds out our list of Sport class winners at High Voltage MX with his victory in the Sport 85 class.
Participation in RMR’s entry-level Trail classes has been on the rise in recent years, and Greig saw a continuation of that trend. A dozen sleds competed in the popular Trail 800 class, with Ski-doo rider Kevin Daiker (Old Forge, NY) coming out on top. Brian Burkle (Verona, NY) crossed the stripe in second, while Nick Zielinski (Oriskany Falls) filled out the podium in third.
As one of the owners of High Voltage MX, Zielinski is an athlete with an impressive resume.
The Mattison family (Levi and Karl, of Amissville, VA), dominated the Trail 600 class, with Levi taking top honors ahead of his father. For the record, the distance from where they live in Virginia to Greig, NY, is 492 miles. Levi also won the IFS class on Saturday to cap a stellar outing.
Other class winners on Saturday at High Voltage MX include Jeff Gould (Choko Design Masters); Brian Caron (Plus 40); Adam Smith (Plus 30); Julia Krzemien (Voss Signs Women); Ian Smith (Jr. 14-17); Brennan Comeau (200cc Improved); Ethan Cornell (200cc Stock); Dalton Cummins (Jr. 10-13); Gracen Gorham (120 Champ); Logan Mazuy (120 Stock); and Dominic Provo (120 Imp.).
Congratulations to all of our class winners on a bright but cold day in western New York.
Rock Maple Racing would like to thank the folks at High Voltage MX for hosting the season opener. Finding sufficient snow cover anywhere in the northeast is a challenge right now, but Greig had plenty to go around. The race course was excellent given the conditions just a few weeks ago.
Next up for RMR cross country teams is a trip to the Young Farm in West Glover, VT, on Saturday, February 13. Officials would like to thank all of RMR’s valued marketing partners, including Owens Corning; Ingles Performance, of Phoenix, NY; Woody’s Traction Products; Nitro Trailers; Ski-doo/BRP Snowmobiles; Certainteed; Grip-N-Rip Racing Products; Precision Marine & Motorsports; Voss Signs; Philbrick Motorsports and Curve Industries.
