Ski Butternut pushing to open weekend of January 2 – 3.

Great Barrington – After reviewing the most recent short and long term weather forecast, Ski Butternut’s General Manager, Dick McCann happily announced Monday morning that the mountain is looking to open as early as Saturday, January 2nd or Sunday January 3rd. Understandably opening is dependent upon the mountain receiving the necessary cold temperatures to blow snow, but the forecast looks very promising in regard to that much needed return to colder temperatures.

The Berkshires are under a Winter Weather Advisory Monday night into Tuesday afternoon that brings with it cold temperatures. The low for Monday night is predicted to dip down around 23 degrees. Snowmaking weather then returns again Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a low of 22 predicted and then again Sunday with temperatures forecast to dip to a low of 17 degrees. Temperatures in the mid-teens are ideal for snowmaking operations at Ski Butternut. These forecasts come from The Weather Channel. (more…)
