Keri Clougherty’s path through the sport began right on the ice in Lynn, Massachusetts, where her family had a deep connection to hockey. Her father ran the Learn to Skate program at the Connery Rink for many years, instilling an early love for skating in the family. This foundation led her to participate in local girls' hockey programs, witnessing the growth of the sport within the North Shore communities.
Clougherty’s journey took her through various competitive levels, including playing for the Boston Junior Eagles and competing in the Assabet Valley system. Her time as a student-athlete involved significant community engagement, where she worked to organize opportunities for athletes with disabilities and introduced many Boston girls to new sports, demonstrating a commitment that extended far beyond the rink.
Her collegiate career at Boston College saw her establish herself as a defensive defenseman, earning the nickname "Steady Eddie" for her consistency and strength in penalty killing. She cherishes the memories of her time playing in the Beanpot and the TD Garden, reflecting on how the sport shaped her identity while she navigated the competitive landscape of Northeastern college hockey.
After graduation, Clougherty transitioned her passion into coaching. She began as an assistant coach for Merrimack College women's hockey in Hockey East, where she is now building a new team culture alongside her colleagues. Her experience has led her to believe that the dedication to the game, combined with a commitment to community, is the most rewarding aspect of the journey.
