Squam Trail Busters

Club update enquiries and a dated land-trust map separating Pemi Oxbow snowmobile routes from hiking and biking trails.

Squam Trail Busters’ public page identifies the snowmobile club in the Holderness and Squam Lakes area. Use the club’s local notices and enquiries when planning a route or arranging volunteer work.

Read the Pemi Oxbow map legend

The Squam Lakes Conservation Society’s Pemi Oxbow Preserve story and map (PDF) provides a specific planning reference for land in Plymouth, Holderness and Ashland. The map was produced in August 2024 and appears in the society’s fall/winter 2024 publication. Purple dashed snowmobile routes and pink dashed hiking/biking routes are separate; the red outline marks the conservation area, rather than a trail.

This is a preserve map, not a complete current edition of the club’s wider trail network. Confirm the intended corridor, current signs and any seasonal restrictions with the land manager and club. A trail line or public-access description does not establish current grooming, an open through route or permission to travel across ice.

Check with the preserve’s managers

The society’s conservation-project update describes the town-owned Pemi Oxbow Preserve and lists snowmobiling among its recreation uses. The accompanying 2024 story identifies the Holderness Conservation Commission as the overseer and Squam Trail Busters among the management partners. Ask about current access and winter parking before travelling. Summer walking-event parking at the PSU Ice Arena is not a verified winter trailer arrangement.

The preserve lies in the Pemigewasset River floodplain. Do not use a conservation map, historical river crossing or old grooming report to decide that water, ice or a flooded route is safe to cross.

Ask about local maps and membership

Use the club’s public page to enquire about the applicable trail map, joining terms, next meeting and trail-work needs. Older network mileage, equipment posts and map-advertising notices do not establish a current map edition, stock, dues or a recurring meeting schedule. Check the dates and the specific route before relying on a notice.

The preserve illustration distinguishes snowmobile trails from hiking/biking trails. It covers this conservation property, rather than the club’s full network; check current local access.
